The Last Production 426 HEMI

010We took the RV and headed to the 2013 Food Lion AutoFair at the Charlotte Motor Speedway. With thousands of cars on display and 10,000 vendors attending it was a great time. One of the highlights of the show was the last production 426 HEMI to ever roll off the assembly line. Records show it was built a full two-weeks later than the last documented 426 equipped car, making it the last to roll of the assembly line.

The placard explained that a salesman for Glavic Dodge in Ohio took an order for a 71 Dodge Charger but he told the customer it would likely never be built since Chrysler discontinued the HEMI. Against all odds, and to the delight of the customer, the bright white Charger with full R/T striping was delivered three weeks later. It was also believed to be one of only 33 1971 Dodge Charger R/Ts to come equipped with the HEMI/automatic transmission combinations.
