Meet Mark Polk

Mark’s interest in all things mechanical started at an early age. At 12 years old he disassembled the family’s perfect running lawnmower just to see what made it tick. A year later he rebuilt his first VW engine. As a teenager Mark hung out at his father’s car lot and local auto body shops where he learned the trade of repairing cars early on.

In high school he enrolled in vocational technical courses in auto body repair. Growing up during the muscle car era Mark has deep roots with hot rods and muscle cars. Shortly after graduating from high school Mark joined the Army and was a wheeled vehicle and power generation mechanic. Five and a half years into his military career he attended and graduated from the Warrant Officer Candidate Course as an automotive maintenance technician. Mark was in charge of some very large fleet maintenance operations throughout his military career. He retired from the Army in 1996 as a Chief Warrant Officer Three.

After retiring from the Army he worked for an RV dealership in NC selling RVs, and was soon promoted to the RV sales and F&I manager. Polk was concerned about the lack of education and safety awareness for the RV consumer and started his own company, RV Education 101 in November 1999. He produced 20 RV training DVDs and authored three paperback books and fourteen e-books on RV related topics. His bestselling book titled “The RV Book” has sold over 45,000 copies since 2006 and their DVDs and other products have helped educate over 1,000,000 RV owners and enthusiasts throughout North America. Auto Education 101 is a spin-off of RV Education 101 with the same goal of improving the automobile consumer’s education and safety awareness as it pertains to automobiles.
